Spring 1998 - The students attend the dinner meetings at the Federal City Chapter. At each meeting, a student generally gives a brief presentation of his/her rotorcraft research at the University of Maryland. Speakers for this semester included Rajneesh Singh, Cliff Smith, Jeanette Epps, Paul Samuel, Andy Bernhard, and Jason Kiddy. The dinner meetings also give the students a chance to interact with the rotorcraft community and to inform them of the activities being pursued at Maryland.

February 13, 1998 - Twenty three members of the society visited Boeing-Philadelphia's facilities. This was a very entertaining and educational visit. The group was given tours of several facilities including the wind tunnel, composites manufacturing lab, simulations lab, and a CH-47 maintenance trainer.

March 13, 1998 - The Student Chapter hosted a luncheon for the Federal City Chapter at the UofM's Student Union. John Yuhas from the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army's Aviation Science and Technology Programs was the featured speaker. Mr Yuhas, who was formerly from the NRTC (National Rotorcraft Technology Center) discussed the unique cooperative approach between government, industry, and academia that is the basis of the NRTC. The banquet was a success with 12 students, 8 faculty, and 25 members from outside the university in attendence.

May 20-21, 1998 - The University of Maryland's Student Chapter was present at the 54th Annual Forum of the American Helicopter Society and at the First Annual Frank N. Piasecki Scholarship Golf Tournament. Over twenty students voluteered their time to help make both events run smoothly. Volunteer activities at the forum included judging presentations and maintaining the audio/visual equipment. At the golf tournament, students helped with registration activities and monitoring tournament activities such as the putting and driving contests.

August 21, 1998 - Members from the Student Chapter visited the American Helicopter Museum in West Chester, Pennsylvania. The museum houses helicopters developed in the early part of the century when rotorcraft technology and applications were just getting started. Also on display is a Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey which is a tiltrotor

August 30-September 9, 1998 - Painted the UH-1H "Huey" helicopter donated to the Aerospace Engineering Department by the Maryland National Guard. A few pictures of the endeavour are presented below.

September 10-11, 1998 - Members from the Student Chapter were present at the College Park Airshow where the University's UH-1H helicopter was on display. Although the helicopter is not flight-capable anymore, most of the controls work and the students were on hand at the Airshow to discuss its operation with the public. In order to get ready for the Airshow, the AHS had the clean and paint the helicopter.

October 16-18, 1998 - Students volunteered at the American Helicopter Museum's Rotorfest. Rotorfest was a airshow coordinated by the Museum which specifically catered to the rotorcraft community. On display were rotorcraft such as the V-22 Osprey, Apache, and an autogyro. The students helped coordinate activities and as a result were given a free ride. YIPPEE!!
